Reservations agents are usually located within hotels and are the first to meet guests when they walk through the door. They are in charge of greeting each guest, checking them in, getting the necessary payment information, giving them their keys, and checking guests out. They also take phone calls and record any reservations that are made by phone.
A high school diploma is needed for a position as a reservations agent. Some companies give a 3 week training course when hired. Working with customers on a daily basis means that skills such as a friendly personality, ability to stay organized, using a multiline telephone, great telephone etiquette, self-motivation, scheduling, cashiering, problem solving, and patience are needed. Being able to handle stressful situation and sometimes, stressful customers, is also an important part of a reservation agents skills.
