Medical assistants have both clinical and administrative duties to perform daily. Clinical duties may include recording medical histories of patients, prepping patients for examination, explaining any type of treatments or procedures to patients, and sterilizing tools to be used in examinations. Administrative duties will include greeting patients, answering phone calls, scheduling appointments, and bookkeeping.
For a medical assistant position, the minimum requirement is a high school diploma. Some facilities may only require the equivalent of a high school diploma. This position requires dealing with an abundance of people on a daily basis so it is important to possess the ability to work well with anyone regardless of background, race, religion, or heritage. A soothing nature is necessary when calming patients before examinations or procedures. Daily tasks will require the ability to multitask, schedule, and organize.
