The field of guest service mainly involves working in hotels, but can be towards other business types also. The most important part of the job is to ensure the customer’s satisfaction, so they will want to keep coming back. Guest service agents are in charge of welcoming guests, checking them in, seeing to any complaints and reporting them accordingly, handling cancellations, and collecting payment information.
The minimum educational requirement for working in guest services is to have a high school diploma or the equivalent. Having a background working in customer service is a plus. This is because the skills needed for this job involve having a great personality, being approachable, staying organized on a daily basis, and an ability to problem solve quickly. Added skills that will help are great verbal communication, a professional appearance, knowledge of multiline telephone systems, trustworthiness, and a good since of responsibility.
