Home 3 Things Preventing You From Getting an Interview
Your phone number or email address are not correct. It sounds silly, but before you laugh, double check your resume. A simple mistake like this is avoidable, but can ultimately cost you a job. If you find that this is the case, call the companies that you have sent your resume to. Before tattling on yourself, simply ask if the position has been filled or if interviews have been schedule. It’s likely that you’ll catch it before they do and you may be able to get an interview on the books during that same call.
Spellcheck. If your resume contains any obvious spelling or grammatical errors, you can count yourself out for an interview. Instead of relying on your word processor’s spell check, ask a few of your peers to look it over. Having a fresh set of eyes take a peek can reveal a lot.
Applying to the same company, for different positions. When you’re desperate to get a job. you often respond by sending out more resumes than you can count. While the sheer number of resumes being sent isn’t bad, it’s more of a shotgun approach and you’ll likely have to lower your standard. That being said, be careful to not apply to a ton of positions at a single company. First, it shows how desperate you are and second, it looks as though you’re not reading the descriptions.
