About Hospice Careers

Hospice workers are naturally caring and loving in nature and are seeking out an opportunity to help and comfort terminally ill patients. This profession is a recent development in the business world, and is expected to grow by 25% within the next five years, the largest growth of any United States occupation. Depending on the company that they work for, hospice workers can earn a salary of anywhere from $35,000 to $55,000 per year.

What to Expect

When hiring a new hospice worker, employers look for individuals with at least a Bachelor’s Degree in social work, psychology, or sociology. Some companies require workers to be certified in social work or hospice care through the National Association of Social Workers. Additionally, these individuals must be licensed to work in the state in which they are applying. Hospice workers are assigned patients with terminal conditions to care for until their death or recovery. Typically, they visit their patients once a week or more to check on them, and coordinate meetings with family members as well.
