Servers handle an extensive list of tasks. They are responsible for interacting with customers in order to take their orders, presenting those requests to the cooks, making sure the orders are correct, taking the appropriate orders to the right customers, and being sure they can accommodate the customers as needed. Refilling drinks, taking secondary orders, and cleaning areas for the next customers are all part of the job.
For any position as a server there are no necessary education requirements involved. Nearly all skills involved will be learned on the job. There are, however, other requirements that are needed. Because of working with both satisfied and dissatisfied customers, having a positive disposition and exceptional communication skills are absolutely needed. Servers must also present a clean and professional presence, great memory when waiting on different customers, and be quick and precise when serving.
