Phlebotomists are in charge of taking blood samples for use in medical laboratories. They will use special medical equipment in order to take a closer look at those samples that were collected. Usually, they will look at blood type and cell count as the main factors and record those results in a logbook. They will then report what they discover back to the doctors who requested the blood tests.

What to Expect When Interviewing

A bachelor’s degree in medical technology and life sciences is absolutely necessary for this position. There are some places that may ask for a certification or license. There are long hours to be worked and various patients in which to take samples so an ability to stay alert and prioritize workflow is very important. Other skills that are required are a caring attitude when working with ill or injured patients, attention to detail, and an ability to learn new technology, fast.
