Maxwell Kohl founded Kohl’s in 1962 as a median-priced department store, selling everything from candy to sporting equipment. Eventually, after being purchased by investors, the chain grew by an additional 27 stores. Through many years of growth and acquisitions, Kohl’s presence spread across the United States, with over 1,100 locations throughout the country. Kohl’s has become one of the largest and more successful department store brands, now competing with Macy’s and Nordstrom, but with distinct changes that add to its success.
