Its satellite service, launched on June 17, 1994, transmits digital satellite television and audio to households in the United States, Latin America and the Caribbean.[5][6] Its primary competitors are Dish Network and cable television providers. It was announced on May 18, 2014, that DirecTV may possibly be acquired by AT&T, Inc., in a transaction valued at $48.5 billion that is subject to federal approval.
