Jobs for Those With Physical Disabilities

Need Help Finding a Job?

Over 10 million people living in the United States are living with physical disabilities, limiting their career choices. Although, especially with how technology has evolved, there are more and more job opportunities and career paths to those who have disabilities. Disabilities are absolutely a challenge, but it does not have to mean a forfeit of a career. Here are a few examples of jobs that can be done from a wheelchair.

  • Sales representative- Many companies now allow their sales representatives to work remotely, so leaving home would not be an issue. Furthermore, sales reps often get paid a very generous commission.
  • Management consultant, auditor, accountant, IT specialist- All of these jobs are mentally stimulating and can be done from a desk.
  • Teacher/professor- Since it is a requirement for all schools to have wheelchair access, this would not be a problem. Furthermore, teaching is a great profession with many benefits as well as summer's off. This is a great job where passion can meet occupation. If you have a passion for any topic, you can teach it and not be limited due to disability.
  • Writer- Writing can be done from anywhere in the world so long as you have a computer. Whether freelance or employed, writing is another mentally stimulating occupation which allows the sky to be the limit.
  • Medical Administration- The medical industry could be perfect for you if you have a physical disability. Patients want to know that their needs and cares are heard and understood. They want someone who can relate. Hospitals actually look to employ people who can do just that, and with medical administration there is not much mobility involved.
  • Tech/web development- Most computer based jobs are done at home and if you are technology savvy this could be the perfect job for you!

No matter what, you are capable of great things and there is a whole world out there just waiting for you.
